Thanks very much for participating in our contest. For details of the prize you can look at the announcement here, and to read the nominated posts you can go here for a complete list with links.
If you are new to 3 Quarks Daily, we welcome you and invite you to look around the site after you vote. Learn more about who we are and what we do here, and do check out the full site here. Bookmark us and come back regularly, or sign up for the RSS feed. If you have a blog or website, and like what you see here, we would very much appreciate being added to your blogroll. Please don't forget!
Results of the voting round (the top twenty most voted for posts) will be posted on the main page on June 8, 2009. Winners of the contest, as decided by Steven Pinker, will be announced on June 21, 2009.
Now go ahead and submit your vote below!
Cheers,
Abbas
P.S. If you notice any problems, such as a nominee is missing from the list below, please leave a comment on this page. Thanks.
BEWARE: We have various independent ways of keeping track of attempts at voting multiple times, which I am deliberately not revealing publicly. Any attempts at fraud will be thoroughly investigated, and anyone caught trying to vote multiple times will be instantly disqualified. I don't think I really need to say this, but there are always a couple of bad eggs who will try!
Just the best!

Can you edit the name of my blog? "Nature Network" is the entire blog network (like ScienceBlogs) but my blog there (from which both NN posts originate) is "Expression Patterns".
(And good luck with the judging process!)
Posted by: Eva | June 01, 2009 at 10:43 AM
What a great contest! I would like to point out a problem, though: some of the entries are listed twice. For example, Neurocritic posts #85-88 are identical to The Neurocritic #145-148. Same goes for Psych Central #104 and World of Psychology #175. It would be great if you could fix this.
Thanks, and best of luck to all the nominees!

Thanks! Have fixed it. (I think.)

Can you vote more than once or on more than one post?
(I noticed I "can", technically, by refreshing - I mean are those somehow illegal or removed later)
Posted by: Voter | June 01, 2009 at 02:13 PM
Voter,
If you go and look at the results, you'll notice your second vote was not counted. I do not want to give away the details of how we keep track, lest people try in complex ways to game the system, but rest assured that it's pretty foolproof. (I tested it in various ways prior to the actual vote.)
If you still feel that you are being able to vote more than once (or have other concerns about the polling), please contact me by email.
Thanks.
Posted by: Abbas Raza | June 01, 2009 at 02:18 PM
Oh - good point: I didn't check to see if it actually *counted* the vote... I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed :)
One other question, though - if there are a lot of ties (ie if there are 15 clear 'top vote getters' but the next step has 9 people with 2 votes or something), how will the cut be made?
Posted by: Voter | June 01, 2009 at 02:24 PM
Voter,
That's a very good question. We have contacted Republican operative James A. Baker, III, to intervene in the case of any ties (or other problems) in the voting. We hear he is an expert in resolving such problems.
Okay, just kidding. The correct answer is that we will then include the entries which make the largest donation to 3QD using our handy "Make a Donation" button.
Okay, fine, I am just joking again. We'll actually just include all such entries for the second round, where I get to be a judge (so be nice to me!) along with the other three main 3QD editors. In any case, Prof. Pinker will get either six or seven entries to judge (depending on whether we feel like adding a "wildcard" entry that we think is deserving of his attention, but didn't make it into our list of semi-finalists).
Next question?

Number 4. 3 Quarks Daily: Giambattista Della Porta of Naples: How to Turn a Woman Green

Is the voting still fair when you ask all your Twitter friends to come here and vote for you?
Posted by: Art | June 01, 2009 at 07:16 PM
In the voting list, the entry for Bioephemera's Jared Diamond post has some pieces of a Cardiobrief entry attached to it.

But where is my favourite Bilogy in Science Fiction !

Great Blog! Great pictures.
Posted by: Marcia Clay | June 02, 2009 at 02:46 AM
Art, I don't see how it's any different than asking your friends to vote for you any other way: in person, over the phone, by email, on your blog, etc. Twitter is just another way of communicating with people, and I can see no reason it should be thought of as unfair.
chezjake, thanks, I've fixed it.
Dr. Mishra, I am very sorry, but the period for accepting nominations is now over. I will go and look at the post you've suggested, and will consider it for the "wildcard" entry.

Hi Abbas,
Very minor typo on one of the 2020 Science blog titles - the second one listed should be "Cultural Smokescreens" (plural).

Boy, this contest has some amazing blog posts in it! I've found some writers I hadn't heard of who are FANTASTIC.
Thanks to everyone at 3QD - this contest was a GREAT idea, and a great way to spread the word about some lesser known science blogs. A big thumbs up from me!

When you are in not good state and have got no money to get out from that point, you would require to receive the personal loans. Just because that will help you emphatically. I take term loan every time I need and feel myself fine just because of that.

That scientific exploration, once forced into with practical for the purpose, or forced to react to the problems of daily life, it is not repeated scientific exploration is a vulgar misunderstanding. In fact, the real world is perhaps the most abundant research questions good source, they call to explore basic science.
