Adelle Explains Urgency to the Judge
.

A few hours before the wedding I started to draw again. I had never taken my sketches seriously. But these new pictures showed a mastery I never thought possible before. In those few hours, I gained a sense of myself. I locked the door to the bridal suite and sketched everything I could: the windows, an armoire, my violet nightgown hanging from a hanger. That was when I heard a knock, followed by shouts and threats. It was my mother with the white dress.
