The Prospect 2013 World Thinkers Poll
You can go vote over at The Prospect:
Who is on the list?
As a starting point, we have drawn up a list of 65 people, based on recommendations from our ten-strong panel. Candidates have to be alive and still active in public life. They must be distinguished in their field and have influence on international debate. We gave credit for the currency of the candidates’ work—their influence over the past 12 months and their continuing significance to this year’s biggest questions.
The panel: Anne Applebaum, Philip Campbell, Amy Chua, James Fallows, Stephanie Flanders, Bernard Henri-Lévy, Bronwen Maddox, David Miliband, Anna Maria-Misra and Strobe Talbott. Judges were not permitted to vote for themselves.

Looking over the list, it occurred to me that the more interesting question would have been "who are the three biggest intellectual frauds?"

It's simply appalling Chomsky, the previously voted greatest intellectual alive is simply not on the list.
He still carries a significant voice in public affairs at least to everyone not in international relations academia or some other nonsense and he's still relevant and offering talks and critiques in the field of minds (see the Brains, Minds and Machines Symposium).
If you are going to include other great psychologists on the merits of psychology, such as his student Steve Pinker or Dan Kahneman, at least give Chomsky a role. If you are going to include activists like Arudhati Roy or David Grossman, why then not Chomsky?

This list is terrible.. I second Jim.

Given the presence of intellectual giants like Anne Applebaum, David Millibrand, Amy Chua and BHL on the judging panel, the suckiness of the list itself is super-unsurprising.
