Saturday Poem

Alan

I sat here all summer
under your books
like an i bent to an e
dreaming of
snapping to
with such a jolt
as to toss my dot
five lines up into
the paragraph
your bookshelves
make and glanced
to the left margin
where a cardinal
looped red poems
on the trellis
and tacked them
down with his
orange nose
