Sunday Faiz Special: Dasht-e-Tanhai sung by Meesha Shafi

Do yourself a favor and just listen to this:

You can also see a sort of "making of" video about this here.

Dasht-e-Tanhai is an Urdu poem written by Faiz Ahmad Faiz. It was originally sung by the legendary Iqbal Bano:

And here is a version sung by Tina Sani:

And one more by Iqbal Qasim:

Jim, click the linked name of the ghazal in the post after the first video to see a (baddish) translation. Glad you liked it!

Nice attempt, but nothing beats the original rendition.

To all urdu lovers: This is not a Ghazal, it is a nazam. I always wonder how people who love poetry keep making this mistake by confusing Ghazals with Nazams. For a piece of poetry to be known as Ghazal you have to follow certain rules (Makta, Matla, Takhalus)

Sorry, Fraz, you are absolutely right. I carelessly and without thinking about it at all just copied the phrase "Urdu ghazal" from Wikipedia, which has it wrong. Lesson learned!

I have corrected it. Thanks.

It's always wonderful to get a solid introduction to something so special - thank you Abbas.
