Asians in the Library

I already feel bad for the poor girl. She is really out of her depth here, and she is going to get hammered. Some people are going to say she asked for it, but as human beings we are allowed to feel some pity....
The Chinese guy's response is really so many levels above her that its not a fair match. Though I guess there may be some Asians out there who are going to start whining about racism and play the victim card soon enough, which will sort of dumb the contest down enough to make it a level playing field.
On the other hand, if we are lucky, that whole vaporous show will be confined to liberal White blogs and Asians will be able to laugh at both ends of the White degenerate spectrum...
Just kidding folks, just kidding.

Asians sure do love the library!

Outrage porn starring Dr Laura or Kramer or Juan Williams or Bill Maher makes some sense. Those people are independently important, and I suppose their utterances merit some interest. But random college students? Who the hell is this woman and why is she in AP stories? Apparently if only I acquire cleavage / weird makeup and make a youtube post today about how awful fat people are, *I* can be all over the news tomorrow. This is worse than shark attack and Paris Hilton.

I miss my library; I need my library.

Posted by: Robin | Mar 16, 2011 3:07:21 PM

Wait, Paris Hilton was attacked by a shark? I mean, seriously, that would be news!

A racist rant from a semi-literate 'student' on youtube? *GASP* That must be the first time this has happened in the history of the internet!

@prasad & DrunktanDan:

I certainly take your point, but have you watched the video in question? It's pretty god damn amazing.

Mocking isn't racism, but that doesn't mean the Cleavage Babe didn't make a fool of herself by mocking others who are unlike her.

The response--mockery in return, only much more incisive--is entirely appropriate.

I just wasted 30 seconds of my life on this.

Posted by: J.Hawkins | Mar 17, 2011 10:02:33 AM

That's nothing, J, I'm currently wasting 30 seconds making this comment.

Posted by: Sagredo | Mar 17, 2011 9:32:03 PM

So I'll waste a bit of time as well and note that "ting tong" is spelled "ติ๊ง ต๊อง" here in Thailand, with both words said in the Thai rising tone. Slang, translates roughly as odd, eccentric, peculiar, quirky, strange, space cadet, klutz, clumsy, etc. So it does have a meaning. Here in Asia, no less.

People outside Thailand can be forgiven for not knowing this, however. I mean, my Korean, Cantonese and Japanese vocabularies combined probably remain(s) under 10 words. Asia is a bit big. Languages are often quite different. As are the people and cultures. Definitely not appropriate to lump them all together.

first thing that comes to mind is the family unit (moms doing laundry and cooking erry damn weekend) and how both videos showcase each person's perceived value of it in their respective worlds and perceive it in the others'...fun little self/other exercise there...

second is the fact that, yes, asians are taking over our classrooms, libraries, and college towns, and not contributing to local events and culture, even at times actively isolating themselves because of racism. she has the twisted, youthful beginnings of a point, there...

third is the healing power of music, which undoubtedly will only anger the first ranter, allow her to rant some more, and perpetuate the cycle of isolation/education, cross-culturualism, viralization, ad nauseum...

WINNING!

I could get through about 10 seconds of the first video. Egads.

I'm not the most politically correct person, UCLA girl, but do you think anybody would give a **** about your opinions if you weren't conventionally attractive and part of the ruling class and ethnicity?

But don't take this personally. You know how we jealous NorCal bulldykes are.

Posted by: Gajasimha | Mar 20, 2011 10:05:09 AM

Gajasimha. Speaking on behalf of the ruling class, our term for her is White Trash. Attractive? Really? And nobody cares about her opinions, we just think it's funny that she seems to think anyone would.

I don't feel bad at all, she's not a child - she's an adult, she knows the consequences of her actions.

ITS FUNNY HOW BIG SOMEONES EGO GETS BEHIND A COMPUTER. WE ALL KNOW SHE WOULDN'T HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY THAT TO AN ASIANS FACE.

IF SHE DID, I'D KNOCK HER OUT.

Posted by: aLLIE | Mar 25, 2011 11:36:29 AM

One would hope she wouldn't have the balls. These days, you never know.

Posted by: J.Hawkins | Mar 25, 2011 11:43:17 AM

"IF SHE DID, I'D KNOCK HER OUT."

She had death threats (and probably much contempt) to the point she had to leave school. We needed help at the diner, anyway, so it's all good.
