A bunch of barbarians in the desert
This video contains the most preposterous performance I have seen yet in a talk show, by the "Republican strategist" Jack Burkman. It is as offensive as it is ludicrous and laughable, and Robert Fisk and Anas al-Tikriti seem to have trouble deciding whether to get angry or break out in guffaws at the ridculousness of it all!

How does one begin to deconstruct Burkman’s most maddening discussion of neoconservative Middle East realpolitik. I believe his reference to barbarians in the desert accurately reflected the cultural prejudices held by the Bush administration. It was their belief in American exceptionalism, a messianic crusade to spread a uniquely Western style of free-market democracy known as corporatism, that precipitated the unprovoked attack on Iraq and its citizens and ultimately sanctioned the use of torture at places like Abu Ghraib. Burkman’s racist view of the Middle East and its diverse cultures can only do serious damage to the long sought rapprochement between East and West. “The universalizing discourses of modern Europe and the United States assume the silence, willing or otherwise, of the non-European world.” Edward Said, Culture and Imperialism (1993)
