Sadly, his ties to the NOI will forever make a large portion of his speech irreverent. If he had plotted a secular course, his words could have ringed for generations.

mr.goodbar, do you mean "irrelevant" here:
"Sadly, his ties to the NOI will forever make a large portion of his speech 'irreverent'."? It doesn't seem 'irreverent' according to Islam.
But if you mean that his belief in Islam renders a large portion of his speech 'irrelevant', I think that's also wrong, since his making the pilgrimmage to Mecca convinced him that Islam embraced all people as equals. And rightly, I feel, since a more relevant point could hardly be made to the white so-called men of our time.

"I couldn't tear myself
away from 3 Quarks Daily, to the point of neglecting my work. Congratulations on
this superb site."—Steven
Pinker, Johnstone Professor of Psychology, Harvard University.
"I have placed 3 Quarks Daily at the head of my list of web bookmarks."—Richard
Dawkins, Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University.
"Just wanted you to know I’m one of many who reads and enjoys 3 Quarks....almost daily."—David Byrne, musician, former lead-singer of the Talking Heads, artist, intellectual.

His Oxford debate is priceless viewing. He completely turns George McGovern's famous line from that year's RNC speech on its head.
