how to think about science
If science is neither cookery, nor angelic virtuosity, then what is it? Modern societies have tended to take science for granted as a way of knowing, ordering and controlling the world. Everything was subject to science, but science itself largely escaped scrutiny. This situation has changed dramatically in recent years. Historians, sociologists, philosophers and sometimes scientists themselves have begun to ask fundamental questions about how the institution of science is structured and how it knows what it knows. David Cayley talks to some of the leading lights of this new field of study.An impressive series put together by CBC Radio. Here is an example of how the cancer generals of the failed war on cancer have been disregarding scientific evidence for the past 40 years:
This information comes from the enlightening summary of the subject of Vitamin C and cancer from the article "Cancer and Vitamin C Therapy for Patients" by Reagan Houston, M.S., P.E., Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, August/September, 2007 and from another article by Steve Hickey, Ph.D. et al "The Real Story of Vitamin C and Cancer", publication data unknown.
It has been known since about 1957 that cancer cells are killed by hydrogen peroxide. Here is the reference proving this: R.A. Holman, Nature, 179 (4568), 1033.
Experiments were first reported by Dean Burk, Ph.D., et al, that Vitamin C kills cancer cells at high doses in the article: "Synergistic killing of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells by ascorbate and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole", Oncology, 23, 33-43, 1969.
Abram Hoffer, M.D., a distinguished physician and scientist in Canada, and former colleague of Linus Pauling, Ph.D., has demonstrated great success in treating advanced cancer patients, for whom the orthodox quack treatments failed, in Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, 1990:5: 143-154. These treatments were at high doses of about 100 gm to 200 grams per day given intraveniously under medical supervision. (It is not recommended to attempt to perform this on one's own.)
It is now understood that Vitamin C kills cancer cells by producing hydrogen peroxide in them while not affecting normal cells: The recent reference for this is: "Pharmacologic ascorbic acid concentrations selectively kill cancer cells: Action as a pro-drug to deliver hydrogen peroxide to tissues", by Q. Chen, et al, PNAS: 102:13604-13609, 2005. Yet the cancer generals have been obstructing and misrepresenting the values of vitamin C for decades and focusing on the minimum daily requirement for prevention of scurvy of 60 mgm per day while unscientifically not studying this miracle substance at higher doses. In fact, vitamin C is an anti-toxin and has even been used for curing poisonous snake bites, much more effectively than with anti-venom, as discussed by Frederick R. Klenner, M.D., F.C.C.P. as early as 1971 in the Journal of Applied Nutrition 23:, Winter, 1971! Dr. Klenner is a very distinguished medical doctor who graduated from Duke Medical School. Obviously the non scientists in charge of the war on cancer evidently never learned the rules of science. They are engaged in fooling a gullible public because there is no money to be made in treating patients with vitamin C is there? This is why the cancer generals must not only be fired, but prosecuted for scientific misconduct, fraud, medical quackery and crimes against humanity.
As an example of the striking success of such treatments with vitamin C, which are outlawed by the criminal FDA of the United States, breast cancer patients who survived an average of 3.7 months after failed orthodox surgery, radiation and cheotherapy, survived 70 months after vitamin therapy; those with cancer of the uterus who survived only 4 months with orthodox therapy, survived 99 months with vitamin therapy. Even those with cancer of the pancreas, the organ most difficult to treat, survived only2.4 months with the failed orthodox therapy, survived 40 months with the vitamin therapy! Isn't it amazing the criminal cancer generals and non scientists at the U.S. FDA, NIH and NCI continually get away with their quack medical recommendations without challenge year in and year out? Let us see of the new president has the intelligence and courage to do anything about this medical obscenity under the guise of "science".

Thank you so much for posting these interviews! I wanted to add one, since Ivan Illich and the ideas he explores in Medical Nemesis have come unbidden into my life. I think other people might be interested in his criticism of the modern industrial world and the technocratic approach to health -- or, rather, well-being.
At least I think Akeel Bilgrami would understand.

While I have shared your snarky/reasonable sentiments reading previous posts by Winfield, I checked anyway.

It's interesting, at least, to contemplate Big Pharma doing a great deal of work to bury things like this. There is a lot of money to be made in the cancer business, and cancer is one of the primary drivers to convince people they should have health insurance. As stated in the video, despite hopeful signs, insurance will not cover the $100 weekly treatments.

Interesting.... no doubt there is something to it but, probably like you, I don't think much of throwing round wild, unspecified terms like 'cancer generals'. As each new 'conspiracy' is alleged (think 'Darwinism' or 'global warming alarmists') in the higher ranks of the scientifc community I am less convinced that even 10% of the population has the slightest idea how science and peer-review actually work in the real world.

I was just at the Library, reading that cult magazine Nature.
It was strange-- a lot of the words I couldn't understand, and it had all this stuff about data and observation, and was published so other people could analyze it and and check the information, to see if they had other data that didn't conform to the papers.
I just was so confused-
Thank the Psychopathic Sky Daddy I don't have to check all this stuff, and I know what is true.
They even had this paper about the Antarctica melting! That is Communist Scientist trying to deny my dive right to prosperity.

I came across your site quite by accident but couldn't help but to comment on cancer cures. I was doing research on Otto Warburg and his findings on the transfer of matter in and out of a cell. I was also doing research on A. Keith Brewer,Phd. and his protocol on curing cancer. He did studies on cesium and how cancer cells take up cesium and create a high ph environment which is the destroyer of cancer cells.
This protocol has been around a long time and the National Cancer Institute refused to fund clinical trials beyond the mice stage. A. Keith Brewer paid for the trials of cesium on mice at Tufts University and was successful enough to be encouraged by Dean Burk, Phd who knew of the mice studies and encouraged Brewer to approach the NCI. Dean Burk was a long time researcher at the National Cancer Institute.
Naturally Brewer was refused since cesium can not be patented, it is naturally in nature.
Remember, no patent no money. Is this not the motto of the "Pharma Cartel" backed by our own health agencies.

In my travels on the internet I came across an announcement by the National Cancer Institute that they are finally recognizing the Nobel Prize Winner in medicine in 1931. That man is Otto Warburg. His discovery is the common denomintor of all cancer cells. The cells can take in nourishment but can not rid themselves of the waste therefore turning the cell into a fermenting cell which changes them from normal into cancer. The NCI recognized Warburg's in 1996 and said they would have to do more studies., The protocol for the cure came from Keith Brewer, Phd and can be used as he outlined. You may wonder why it is not used today, The protocol utilizes cesium which can not be patented. No patent, no money for the greedy pharma cartel. While thousands have died since 1931 and continueto die today and in the future this cure is being withheld.
Your life is worth nothing if money can not be made you.
