10010
Dear Reader,
On the occasion of our 1,000th post at 3QD I had written a short note to our readers. It is now my privilege to announce that in the less-than-three-years since that time we have done more than 9,000 more posts, and this happens to be the ten thousand and tenth post at 3QD. I had planned to do it as the 10,000th post, but forgot yesterday! :-(
The actual 10,000th post was done early this morning by my sister Azra (on Elias Khoury's new novel), whose record of consistency in posting two interesting items daily is truly remarkable. As far as I know she has never missed a single day, six days a week, in the last three years. She is the Cal Ripken, Jr. of 3QD. (He played in a record 2,632 straight baseball games spanning sixteen seasons.) My friend Morgan continues to scour the web for intellectually stimulating material and consistently manages to surprise and please me with his finds. My sister Sughra comes up with a fascinating art image, and links to more information to go along with it, every Monday without fail. And last, but by no means least, my friend and colleague, Robin Varghese, in addition to his usual erudite selection of links, has also taken over some of the other duties I used to perform at 3QD (and also stepped up his number of daily posts) so that I can have some time to do other work during my sabbatical in Italy. 3QD takes a lot of person-hours to do daily because we look at a very large number of sources before making our selections of what to post. I could not possibly do it on my own (at least while maintaining the current variety). So my heartfelt thanks go to Azra, Morgan, Sughra, and Robin.
A little more than two-and-a-half years ago I wrote the first Monday column at 3QD. Since that time, we and our guest columnists have published approximately 500 (yeah, count 'em!) original essays, making Mondays our most heavily trafficked day. (The champion is my prolific nephew Asad Raza who has written 46 excellent essays for 3QD so far, and shows no signs of slowing. Thanks, Asad!) But I would like to express my gratitude and my congratulations to all our guest contributors for making Mondays at 3QD so special.
And finally, I would like to thank you, Dear Reader, for visiting our site and engaging in such stimulating conversation with us through the comments section and in private emails. Please tell all your friends and colleagues about 3QD. And best wishes for a great 2008!
Yours,
Abbas

Congratulations on this grand success Abbas. Aftre all said and done it is your single minded devotion to spending your precious time and energies, not to say your intelectual curiosity and vast fund of knowledge, which has made this possible. I get an immense pleasure in reading 3QD every day and take great pride in three of my siblings and my son working together along with your true friends Morgan and Robin and many others, to make this site so appealing. So, on behalf of all the readers, let me thank you for your perseverance and dedication and for sharing your writings with us. I also note that the ads have increased over the last year indicating wider appreciation of this website. Great job and best wishes for the future. Hope your sabbatical is as productive as your time spent on 3QD. Love.....Tasnim.

3QD is simply one of the best blogs, best places period, on the net. I have successfully turned both of my parents, both of my brothers, and some of my professors on to this site. It remains one of the few blogs (and regularly read almost 30 blogs) with consistently high writing quality. interesting articles, and (perhaps most important) considered opinions. All I can say is thanks.

3QD has been my homepage for a year now. I absolutely love it. Wish you 10,010 more!

That's an impressive quantity, but what's even more impressive is the quality.
This is truly one of the best sites on the web.

Congratulations on your quality and your longevity!

Congratulations and best wishes for "many happy returns" to an outstanding blog and an equally wonderful stable of writers.
Abbas, knowing a little about what regular blogging entails, I have always been curious - how do you and your co-bloggers manage to be so consistently prolific, creative and regular?

Congratulations to you all!
Well, I didn't read all the 10010 posts, but I really enjoy reading your work, keep on this way.

Congratulations and thank you. I would love to be a fly on the wall at a Raza family dinner. And as for yourself, Morgan, Robin and all of your contributors; if they put you folks in charge of the SETI project they'd have found more intelligent civilizations than they'd have planets to put them on. There is intelligent life on the Web and 3DQ is an excellent guide.

Let me add my congratulations to the list. I don't know where to start bragging, so I'll just say Thanks and keep up the good work. Sometimes I have to skim instead of read, which leaves me feeling empty and guilty. I remind myself that only a polymath could ingest ten thousand articles like we find here without having a breakdown. Many thanks.

Congratulations! You have a record to be very proud of, both as an editor and a writer. Another perspective to take on reaching this benchmark is to think of, if not to calculate, how many intelligent and illuminating comments have attached to those 10,010 posts, and how rewarding it is to write for the people we know are reading. I'm happy and proud you asked me to be a part of it all.

After reading these comments, it's difficult not to be redundant. So, what the hell, I'll be redundant.
It's been a pleasure reading and learning here. Some of it has been eye-opening, some mind-bending, and some heart-wrenching; but all, all of it to the good.
Thanks to you all for creating a great place to hose out a mind. I always leave renewed and inspired.

Abbas, as I have communicated to both you and your Aps in the past I am awed by your work in creating 3QD and even more so for managing to keep such a consistently excellent quality of posts. I am not one for sentimental group affiliations but somewhere in my heart it gladdens me to know that I come from the same land as the Raza family. Keep up the wonderful work and I am waiting for Part II of your Apa's post on Aini Apa with great anticipation.

I also run the risk of repeating everything already stated here........
So....congratulations on what is without a doubt the most informative and enjoyable daily read on the web. One of my top 5 blogs (Might as well say number 1 of those 5).
I look forward to every update and am especially looking forward to what is yet to come.
Well done :golf clap:

Dear Abbas
Hearty congratulations to you, Robin, Morgan, Azra, Sughra, Asad and all your guest writers on the continued high quality and excellence of your blog. Such hard work, dedication and fine output is commendable. My best wishes for its continuity and longevity.

Wow. Thanks!!!
The Bad News: my wife now accuses me of writing these 3QD milestone notes as a way of further inflating my ego.
The Good News: given the logarythmic progression so far, 1000, 10,000, the next note to readers isn't due until 100,000 posts which gives you a break for about 30 years. But then I'll be back!
But seriously, all of us at 3QD appreciate all this incredibly generous praise hugely, and it really motivates us to try and not let our readers down. Thanks a lot.

Congratulations, it is hard enough to find time just to read a fraction of the posts, for a small group of dedicated people like yourselves to write/find all this material every day, and to do so in their spare time, while maintaining carreers and families, is an incredible acheivement. Well done!

Hearty congratulations, Abbas! You and your colleagues have created a wonderful resource, and have maintained it to the highest possible standards. Rarely has rank nepotism led to such happy results.
It's also an outrage that the founders of Google, Youtube and Facebook, etc., are now fabulously wealthy, while you continue to hit me up for small loans on a semi-regular basis!
All the best,
Tony

Great information. I got lucky and found your site from a random Google search. Fortunately for me, this topic just happens to be something that I've been trying to find more info on for research purposes. Keep up the great work and thanks a lot.
