Dear Ga,
Interesting as this image is, I am upset that while choosing an image to represent "Modern Miniaturists" you did not pick one from Shahzia Sikander's oeuvre. She is single-handedly resposible for the renaissance of miniature painting, and this work seems particularly derivative of the modern style of miniatures that she has invented. She is generally never given as much public credit as she deserves for her extreme originality (because of envy on the part of her rather celebrated--we know who they are--detractors, but copiers), and I am afraid that you have continued the bad tradition of celebrating these famous and powerful (in the art world) imitators. As visually appealing as this work may be, there are a hundred better paintings by Shahzia to represent the rebirth of miniatures (which is all Shahzia!). You should really have chosen one of those. Please reply here and defend your choice. Thanks.
(Every element in this picture is copied from Shahzia, from the use of an animal silouhette, to the geometric patterns. I can't believe how few new visual ideas these people have!)

Ga, thanks for posting this. I visited the sites and greatly enjoyed the collaborative nature of these paintings. While Abbas is right about Shazia being the originator of this fantastic modern-miniature art-form, at least for me it did not detract from the beauty of the paintings you posted. Being a diehard and huge admirer of Ms. Shazia Sikander, like Abbas, I hope to see you post her work next.
Wonderful start for what we hope will become an exploration of this novel art-form that is so uniquely South Asian.
Aps.
